The Central Coast will play host to hundreds of cyclists during the Amgen Tour of California, and some racing teams are already preparing for the days-long event.

The local Schur racing team, as well as a few other riders, participated in a pre-Amgen ride Monday to prepare for the next month’s race.

They cycled through San Luis Obispo County to Morro Bay where the Stage 4 route will end.

The group gathered at Tognazzini’s Dockside Too after their ride for a little food and drink recovery.

They anticipate a great ride when the actual Amgen tour kicks off in May.

“So the event not only gives us worldwide exposure but you know, from a health standpoint, we’re about community health. And you know, biking and having the ability to be outdoors and really support something that contributes to health activity is something that the city is very supportive of and we’re excited to continue the support,” said Morro Bay Mayor John Headding.

The Amgen Tour of California men’s race kicks off on May 12 in Sacramento.

Riders are expected to arrive on the Central Coast on May 15 in Morro Bay and ride from Pismo Beach to Ventura on May 16.

The Central Coast community is encouraged to come out and cheer on the participants.
