Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival adds new ride

Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival attendees will find a new ride at the carnival this year.

The festival is adding a ride called OMG! Riders will sit on one of four benches that spin individually and that are attached to an arm that also spins.

Other rides include the Berry Go Round, Flying Elephants, Lost Mine, Star Tower, Sea Dragon, Tilt a Whirl, Lolli Swings, Wipeout, Vertigo, Zipper, and Tornado.

In addition to the carnival, festival goers can also check out strawberry tastings and dessert eating contests, cooking demonstrations, educational and wildlife exhibits, and a monster truck show on Saturday.

The Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival takes place April 26-28 at the Santa Maria Fairpark, located at 937 S. Thornburg St.

Gates will open at noon each day and close at 10 p.m., although the carnival may stay open as late as midnight.

Tickets at the gate will cost $10 for ages 12-61, $8 for ages 6-11 and seniors 62+. Kids 5 and under are admitted for free. Daily unlimited carnival ride wristbands are $35.

Discounted tickets and wristbands are available until April 22 and can be purchased at Vallarta Supermarkets, Tortilleria Mexico, and La Miramar stores or online at the Santa Maria Fairpark website.
