Caltrans is asking for public input as they develop a plan that would create safer road alternatives for people who walk, bicycle and use public transportation when they go to work.

The plan is part of Caltrans’ Complete Streets effort to strengthen and reconnect disadvantaged communities and give them safer roads for their commute.

The Active Transportation Plan will identify existing bicycle and pedestrian facilities and improve needs on and parallel to state highways.

Caltrans will have a booth at the Open Streets Santa Maria event Sunday. People can talk to Caltrans employees at their booth and give their input on the Complete Streets initiative.

Open Streets Santa Maria is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. A mile of Main St. from North Blosser Rd. to Broadway will be closed for booths and activities.
