The City of Goleta has a new park.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for Jonny D. Wallis Neighborhood Park is Saturday at 11 a.m. and is followed by a tour of the park.

“We have been waiting for this day for a long time and we’re thrilled to be able to open it up to the public,” Goleta Mayor Paula Perotte said. “We broke ground last May and have watched with anticipation the construction over the last ten months. This is a fantastic place for our Old Town neighbors, from children to adults, to enjoy outside activities.”

The Goleta City Council voted to name the park after Jonny D. Wallis, who was one of the founders of Goleta. According to the city’s website, Wallis was also an advocate of Old Town parks and open space.

The city is inviting people to stop by the park and join in on the festivities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The park is located at the corner of Hollister and Kellogg Avenues.
