UPDATE: Suspected DUI driver arrested after crash in Santa Maria

UPDATE (12 p.m. Thursday) – Santa Maria police have identified the driver as Proceso Soto-Plancarte, who is reportedly in his 40s. Santa Barbara County Jail logs did not show him in custody as of Thursday afternoon.

UPDATE (4:11 a.m.) – Santa Maria police arrested a man on suspicion of drunk driving after a crash Wednesday night.

Officers say two cars collided at Santa Maria Way and Dauphin Street at about 8 p.m. One vehicle then crashed into a power pole, although officers could not say which driver hit the pole.

A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

One person involved in the crash was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area Wednesday night but the crash scene has since been cleared.


 

(4:08 a.m.) Santa Maria Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that happened Wednesday night.

The crash happened at around 8 p.m. at Santa Maria Way and Dauphin Street.

Police are not releasing many details at this time, but say there are injuries involved.

As of 9 p.m. investigators remain on scene and ask people to stay clear of the area.
