A local custodian is receiving some huge appreciation from students and staff members.

Allen Plunk is the lead custodian at Lange Elementary School in Nipomo but takes on more than just cleaning up the entire campus.

Plunk volunteers during lunchtime to talk to the students and get to know what’s going on in their lives.

The students and staff members at the school wanted to show him how much he matters by giving him a shout-out for his contribution to the community.

Debbie Schimandle, Principal at Lange Elementary School says, “Mr. Allen is really a standout custodian because of the relationships he builds with our students and that’s what makes him really different than a lot of other custodians that are out there at schools.”

Another way Plunk provides a positive attitude is by singing Happy Birthday to every student on their special day when they go through the lunch line.

Plunk says, “Well my job is made easy because the kids are great. They’re almost like my own kids when they’re here. So whenever they do something great, then I’m proud of them. And whenever they do something silly, I get a little bothered just like a parent would. But they make my job easy.”
