Donut fans rejoice! Work is underway on what will be home to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in Santa Maria.

Crews have broken ground on two new building pads at The Crossroads shopping center located off Betteravia Road.

Krispy Kreme will open in a 5,500 square-foot building going up in the parking lot in between Menchies and Chuck E. Cheese.

Another 16,000 square-foot building will go up between Jersey Mikes and Chuck E. Cheese.

Officials say the added space will bring about 135 new jobs to the area.

Krispy Kreme is expected to open once work on the project is complete in about seven months. The location will include a drive-thru.

Currently, the closest locations for the store, which sells doughnuts, coffee and more, are Oxnard, Bakersfield and Fresno.

The Crossroads is home to Home Depot, Walmart, Walmart Neighborhood Market, TJ Maxx, Petsmart and Best Buy. Blenders in the Grass also opened in the shopping center earlier this month.
