A group of Grover Beach residents is pushing back on plans for a proposed homeless shelter in the community.
Neighbors for Safety had a meeting Saturday night to discuss the possibility of a homeless shelter opening up at Hillside Church on Newport Ave.
Local non-profits want to turn the location into a two-part housing project that would include transitional housing and permanent affordable housing.
Neighbors for Safety said their pushing back on the plan because they are worried about safety and how close the shelter would be to local schools.
They said it’s “the right idea at the wrong location.”
Grover Beach city managers said the city does not have enough housing space and the project would be beneficial for the at-risk youth.
The 5 Cities Homeless Coalition and People’s Self-Help Housing are working on this project.
