Suspicious death investigation underway after teen found shot in Guadalupe

UPDATE (10:45 a.m.): The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is releasing more information about a suspicious death investigation underway in Guadalupe.

The sheriff’s office says Guadalupe police were called to the 700 block of Olivera Street at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday to reports of a gunshot heard inside a home there.

Once on scene, police found the body of a 17-year-old boy who had sustained a single gunshot wound, according to authorities, who say, “the circumstances surrounding the death were not apparent.”

Guadalupe police requested assistance from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say there is not believed to be a threat to the public at this time.

No other information is being released due to the ongoing investigation.
