A weekend volunteer cleanup at the Cuesta Inlet in Los Osos was a success, according to organizers.

The inlet is a popular boat launching area for kayaks, sailboats and other vessels. While it is private property, the owner has allowed the community access to the area.

Any of the boats that are stored there must be tagged. Volunteers reportedly found that about 35 percent of the 316 boats at the inlet were out of compliance. Notices were placed on those boats and organizers say the CF numbers will be sent to the property owner and the sheriff’s office.

In addition to the boat inspections, volunteers reportedly pulled weeds and disposed of several damaged kayaks, a rusted boat trailer, and pieces of a broken catamaran.
