People in Morro Bay could see smoke this week because Cal Fire and the Morro Bay Fire Department are scheduled to conduct prescribed burns.

The City of Morro Bay said the location of the pile burning depends on weather conditions.

Some potential burn sites are along Quintana Rd. off La Loma Ave., off Lower State Park Rd. at the Y-intersection and the forest area behind the Carmel and Ridgeway St. dead ends.

There could also be a prescribed burn in the Black Hill area of Morro Bay State Park.

The pile burn projects will be from March 18 to March 22.

The purpose of prescribed burns is to reduce the woody debris associated with dead and dying trees and to reduce the risk of a fire.

People who live in the area could see smoke between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. during the week.
