The Santa Maria Public Library wants to make sure kids know how to fix up their bikes.

The library is hosting free bike clinics each month from now through August.

Representatives from Bici Centro Santa Maria were there this Friday, giving lessons on how to fix a bike.

The intention of the “Bike Kitchen” at the library is to encourage earth-friendly types of transportation and guide people into marketable job skills.

“We’re hoping to be able to help people to maintain and repair their bicycles,” said Joyce Fisher, librarian.

The clinic is made possible in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The next Bike Kitchen event will be held on April 12 from 3-5 p.m. Click here for more information.
