Santa Maria-Bonita School District students demonstrate their talents with music, dance, art and theatre in the Fine Arts Festival.

The annual SMBSD Fine Arts Festival began Thursday, March 14 and will continue Friday, March 15 at the Grace Baptist Church on East McCoy in Santa Maria.

On Thursday the Fairlawn School 3rd grade choir, El Camino’s Titan Hip Hop Crew, Rice School’s Rainbows ukulele players and the Ontiveros School choir performed.

On Friday performances include the Adam School EPD Drama group presenting Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein for Kids, as well as the Oakley Dolphins Baton Twirling Group and the Bruce School ukulele players.

There will be a total of 600 students performing in the four different shows.

Students and teachers put in hours of rehearsal time to prepare for the festival. Band director Aleha Larsen says, “It’s really fun because we get to watch the progress of the kids and so we know where they were when they started and then we see them when they perform today and it’s really exciting to see.”

Students from each school will receive recognition for their talents on each night. All performances are free and open to the public.
