The motorcyclist whodied in a crash in the Arroyo Grande area Wednesday after reportedly trying to flee from police has been identified as Takoma Woodward of Orcutt.

Pismo Beach Police say an officer saw the 31-year-old speeding on southbound Highway 101 near Oak Park Boulevard at around 1:50 a.m.

As the officer got closer, police say Woodward slowed down and exited on Halcyon Road before traveling into oncoming traffic, nearly hitting a light pole and running a red light where he then headed south on El Camino Read.

The officer reportedly attempted to pull Woodward over suspecting DUI but as the officer activated his emergency lights, Woodward took off and crashed five seconds later while failing to negotiate a turn, according to police.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Woodward’s family has been notified.
