Santa Barbara deputies issue multiple citations in “shoulder tap” operation

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputies participated in the statewide Decoy Shoulder Tap Operation.

Deputies traveled to locations in Isla Vista and Goleta areas in an attempt to locate people willing to buy alcohol for minors.

During their operation, 67 people were contacted. Deputies issued five citations to people furnishing alcohol to their minor decoy. One other citation was given to a minor for possessing alcohol.

The statewide operation took place on March 9, nearly 70 Police and Sheriff’s Departments in California cited 361 people during the entire operation.

Deputies say crime in the Isla Vista and Goleta areas tend to have a higher percentage of these types of incidents.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office uses grant funding from the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control to battle the alcohol-related crime.
