Caltrans says it will reopen the Mud Creek area of Highway 1 in Big Sur by 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
Because the area is prone to landslides, it was closed to traffic earlier this week in anticipation of severe storm activity.
After the storm, road crews inspected the highway and cleared away debris. They reportedly had to deal with several large boulders that were perched above the roadway, and they discovered that a section of the highway had sunk as much as five feet.
Caltrans says the damaged section of roadway was being repaved and it will be monitored over the weekend.
Caltrans says drivers may still encounter traffic controls after the roadway reopens.
The Paul’s Slide area, which was also closed to traffic during the storm, was reopened on Thursday.
