Families receive keys to new homes they helped build in San Miguel

There’s a new group of homeowners in San Miguel, thanks to People’s Self-Help Housing.

The non-profit helps people build their own affordable housing.

A ceremony was held Friday for the first group of owner-builders in Mission Garden San Miguel’s newest community.

The residents were welcomed with gift baskets and keys to their new house.

“So this is our forever home, said the Beatty family. “So it’s been a long process but yeah, this is something that we’ve worked so hard for.”

Each household contributed about 2,000 hours of labor in building the houses.
