Hundreds of job seekers packed into the Santa Maria Job and Resource Fair Thursday afternoon at the Santa Maria Fairpark.

Organizers say it’s the largest job event in Santa Barbara County.

There were more than 70 different booths with employers, education opportunities, and resource agencies.

The county says the large turnout shows there’s a need for job seekers and employers to connect, something echoed by those looking for a job.

“It was really nice seeing the community come out and seeing how much opportunity there is out there that we don’t have access to just from seeing it online or reading it on Craigslist,” said Joanna Sanchez.

“I haven’t looked for a job in quite a while so this has been a real good experience. I really enjoyed coming here today,” said Richard Alonzo.

The Workforce Resource Center also helped people improve their pitches and resumes.

The Santa Barbara County Workforce Development Board says they’re now planning another job fair like this in Lompoc next month.
