The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is hoping to increase patrolling and enforcement of areas that illegal off-road vehicles are being used.
Authorities are currently seeking grant funding to provide the resources for increased monitoring of the area.
The sheriff’s office says it has received a number of complaints about individuals on ATVs who are damaging private property and the environment.
The complaints are primarily in the Santa Ynez Riverbed and surrounding areas bordering the City of Lompoc, officials said.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has submitted an application to the State of California Parks and Recreation Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation grant program.
