Crashes cause lane closure on Hwy 101 at Nojoqui Summit

UPDATE (8:15 a.m.) – Three separate crashes near the Gaviota rest stop area slowed traffic through the southbound lanes of Highway 101 Thursday morning.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says units responded to the area at about 7:12 a.m.

The first crash was reported about one mile south of Highway 1 involving one vehicle. There were then reportedly two other crashes after that all within a half-mile of each other.

Fire officials said as many as six vehicles may have been involved between the three crashes.

Three people sustained minor injuries. One was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The other two refused treatment, officials said.

A SIG Alert was issued for the area as one lane remained blocked as of 8:10 a.m.

The cause of the crashes is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

 

 

ORIGINAL STORY: California Highway Patrol responds to a multiple car crash near Nojoqui Summit early Thursday morning.

The number one lane on Southbound 101 near Nojoqui Summit is closed due to a three-vehicle crash that happened at around 6:30 a.m.

CHP says there is one vehicle blocking the number one lane and there will be a traffic break leading up to the grade.

As of 7:00 a.m. there are no injuries reported.
