A zombie film produced by local director Shane Ryan was released on DVD Tuesday.
“Virus of the Dead” is about a contagious virus that turns people into zombies.
The film is a collaborative effort featuring scenes shot by 22 filmmakers from across the globe. It co-stars Ryan, along with Kathryn Eastwood, daughter of Clint Eastwood.
Ryan grew up in Lompoc and has been producing low budget films since he was 7-years-old.
He said he hopes the movie’s lo-fi production will inspire others to make their own films.
“It’s made to look, you know, like ‘Blair Witch Project’ style and all that,” he said. “Basically it proved anybody can do it.”
Ryan co-wrote the film and produced the segment that reveals the origin of the zombie virus.
The movie’s DVD release is being distributed by Ammo Content and Wild Eye Releasing. It’s also available for download purchase.
