Caltrans says it will reopen Highway 154 by March 6.
The highway from the Lake Cachuma State Recreation Area to Paradise Road has been closed since the beginning of the month when a storm created a blocked culvert, causing water to flow over the highway.
Caltrans says crews have been working around-the-clock to clear the culvert’s opening, located about 40 feet below the surface, that is clogged with water and debris.
Lake Cachuma is accessible on the Santa Ynez side of Highway 154 and businesses along the highway remain open.
Highway 101 is a detour.
Caltrans says an exact day and time of the highway’s opening will be announced next week.
