A former Canadian pastor convicted of arranging to meet with a minor for lewd purposes was sentenced Wednesday to two years in state prison.

Nathan George Rieger, 53, was arrested in August 2018 after getting caught in a sting operation set up by the Arroyo Grande Police Department. Investigators said Rieger set up a meeting for sex with someone who he believed was a 15-year-old girl.

A San Luis Obispo County jury found Rieger guilty in December.

According to Canadian media, Rieger was a pastor at Winnipeg Centre Vineyard Church but has resigned.

If Rieger remains in the United States following his prison term, he will also have to register as a sex offender, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office.
