UPDATE (2/12/19) – Caltrans confirmed Tuesday that it will close the gates at Mud Creek and Paul’s Slide at 5 p.m.

Caltrans says it expects to reopen the highway to through traffic on Friday, Feb. 15.

(2/11/19) – Due to another storm system expected to hit the Central Coast this week, Caltrans says it will close Highway 1 in the Mud Creek and Paul’s Slide areas of Big Sur on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

The closures will go into effect at 5 p.m.

Both areas are prone to landslides, so Caltrans has developed a plan that calls for the sections of highway to be closed to traffic during what are forecasted to be significant storms.

The gates on either side of Mud Creek and Paul’s Slide will be closed and locked until crews can inspect the highway and clean up any debris once the storm passes.
