Icy road conditions cause multiple crashes in Atascadero

(UPDATE 9:10 a.m.) – The fast-lane of Highway 101 northbound from Santa Barbara Rd. to San Diego Way in Atascadero is back open.

CHP closed that stretch of the highway Wednesday morning after multiple crashes due to ice on the road.


(UPDATE 7:30 a.m.) – CHP expects one lane of Highway 101 northbound through Atascadero will be closed until at least 9 a.m. Wednesday due to dangerous driving conditions.

The northbound 101 fast-lane is closed from Santa Barbara Rd. to just north of the San Diego Way off-ramp through Atascadero.

Templeton CHP officers tweeted that numerous crashes have happened during the morning commute because of icy roads.


(UPDATE: 6:00 a.m.) – CHP is closing a portion 101 Southbound near Santa Rosa Road.

A single-vehicle crash happened near the Santa Rosa Road off-ramp leading to the closure.

California Highway Patrol responds to multiple crashes in Atascadero early Wednesday morning.

The first crash happened at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. California Highway Patrol says two vehicles were involved after a spinout on Northbound 101 near San Diego Way off-ramp.

A second crash happened at around 5:00 a.m. Wednesday. CHP says a single vehicle crashed on Southbound 101 near the Santa Rosa Road off-ramp.

Another single vehicle crash happened at the same time on Northbound 101 near the San Diego Way off ramp.

No injuries have been reported.

As of 5:15 a.m. no road closures are in place.
