Flooding, mud affecting Central Coast roads

11 a.m. – One lane of southbound Highway 101 from the Nojoqui Grade to Highway 1 is closed for rock removal.


At 9:25 a.m., The California Highway Patrol in Templeton said the Department of Transportation was responding to Highway 58 and Bitterwater Road for reports of flooding.


SLO County Public Works announced the following road closures Monday morning.

  • Penman Springs Road low water crossing in Paso Robles north of Linne Road is closed.
  • Cholame Valley Road is closed due to flooding in the Shandon area between Highway 46 and McMillian Canyon Road.
  • Santa Barbara Road at Los Palos Road in Atascadero is closed due to flooding.

Several crashes and traffic hazards were reported Monday morning as rain continues to fall across the Central Coast.

At 7:46 a.m., the California Highway Patrol was responding to a two-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 near the Los Berros Road off-ramp in Arroyo Grande. No injuries were reported.

Another crash in the same area involving one vehicle was reported shortly before that.

Also in the Arroyo Grande area, flooding is said to be affecting Sandoval Road and Santa Clara Road.

Mud and debris were reportedly impacting Lopez Drive.

In Santa Barbara County, Highway 154 from Cathedral Oaks to Highway 246 remains closed. Residents are being allowed through.

Scattered showers and windy conditions will continue throughout the day.
