California’s unemployment rate edged up to 4.2 percent in December after three months at a record low of 4.1 percent.
The state Employment Development Department said Friday the number of unemployed Californians was 813,900 in December. That’s an increase of 7,300 over the month prior but down by 52,500 compared with December 2017, when the rate was 4.5 percent.
The unemployment rate in San Luis Obispo County last month was 2.8 percent, up from 2.7 percent in November. The unemployment rate in December 2017 was 3.0 percent.
In Santa Barbara County, the unemployment rate was 4.0 percent in December, up from 3.4 percent in November. The unemployment rate in December 2017 was 4.3 percent.
