The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday appointed Mark A. Hartwig to the position of Santa Barbara County Fire Chief.
He’ll take over for Mike Dyer, who has been filling in as chief on an interim basis since Eric Peterson retired in the fall of 2018.
Hartwig has been the fire chief of the San Bernardino County Fire District since 2011. In 2017, he was named the California Fire Chief of the Year by the California State Fire Chiefs’ Association.
Hartwig’s first day on the job in Santa Barbara County will be Feb. 18, 2019.
