Demolition begins on Atascadero’s La PLaza project

Posted

After years of anticipation, construction crews have started the demolition process to make way for the La Plaza project in Atascadero.

Developers have been on working on the plans for 2.5 years.

This weekend crews knocked down some buildings that have been vacant for years.

To fill the space, developers hope to put in a mix of casual and upscale restaurants, retail shops and some entertainment stores.

“The goal is to have people come into Atascadero, and I think slowly we’re getting there,” said Zoe Zappas, La Plaza spokesperson. “We’re starting to get a lot of notoriety for, like, small businesses like “Anna and Mom” that’s just blowing up, serving an under-served market.”

Construction is set to begin in March.

When the project is done, it will have a similar aesthetic to Atascadero’s city hall.

It will be three floors, 18,000 square feet of retail and commercial space and two floors of 42 apartment units.
