Santa Maria police are investigating a stabbing that occurred early Friday morning.
It happened shortly before 3 a.m. at a business park in the 2000 block of Preisker Ln.
Police say a security guard who was patrolling the business park went to check on a bathroom and was attacked by a man inside. The man reportedly pushed the security guard to the ground and stabbed him in the chest.
The security guard was wearing a protective vest. Police say he had some pain in the chest area but was otherwise uninjured.
When officers arrived at the scene, they say the knife used in the attack was still sticking out of the security guard’s vest, and the attacker had fled the area.
The security guard described the man as being in his early 30s, heavy set with a beard and light brown or blond hair. He was wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans and white tennis shoes. The security guard said the man appeared to be transient.
The guard reportedly works for Bomar Security.
