San Luis Obispo Jewish Film Festival begins

Celebrate the rich cultural tapestry of San Luis Obispo in this year’s Jewish Film Festival.

Organizers say the event is for everyone, not just the Jewish community, to come to celebrate Jewish culture from all around the world.

The festivals preview was Thursday night where participants watched the new film “On the Basis of Sex”, the biopic of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

A welcoming reception takes place on Saturday, Jan. 5 at Quality Suites on Monterey Street. At the reception, participants get the chance to meet with others and filmmakers while tasting local wines and food.

Following the reception, participants can head over to the Palm Theater to watch “Who Will Write Our History”. A documentary by Roberta Grossman who tells the story of the secret archive that was created in the Warsaw Ghetto to preserve in-the-moment, eyewitness accounts from the Holocaust. Afterward, there will be a Q&A with the film’s editor Chris Callister.

There will be numerous films on Sunday for guest to enjoy.

-“School Ties”

After Lunch presentations:
-“A Thousand Kisses”
-“Budapest Noir”

After dinner presentations:
-“Wendy’s Shabbat”
-“Coming Home: The Tale of Team Israel”

Filmmakers are available following the most screening to answer questions and talk about their experiences.
