The Pismo Beach Police Department is mourning the death of one of its officers over the weekend.
Chief Jake Miller said Sgt. Trevor Blevins died in what he called a “tragic firearm-related accident” at Blevins’ home while he was off duty.
Some local residents may have noticed a police procession from the hospital to the mortuary following Blevins’ death on Sunday night.
Chief Miller said a private memorial service is planned.
He said no other details about the incident are being released at this time.
Miller said Sgt. Blevins started his law enforcement career with the Pismo Beach Police Department eleven years ago. He was a K9 handler until 2017 when his dog, Cannix, retired.
