The curbside collection of Christmas trees will begin in Santa Maria next week.

The City says the trees will be picked up at no charge during regular residential trash collection days between Dec. 31 and Jan. 5.

After that date, those still needing their tree picked up will be charged.

People getting rid of their trees should place them on the curb at least three feet away from trash containers on the day of their normal scheduled pickup.

Ornaments, stands and tinsel must be removed from the trees. Flocked trees cannot be taken.
