The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art (SLOMA) is accepting applications for their second exhibit.

The theme of the winter exhibit is nature, and they are looking for artwork from middle school students.

SLOMA said it hopes to awaken creativity in local middle school students by giving them a chance to explore their artistic expression and create a piece of art that shows how nature influences their lives.

“These students have the opportunity to learn more about the art world, show the community their artwork and really feel what it’s like to be an artist,” SLOMA Executive Director Karen Kile said . “We’re excited to see how nature will inspire them.”

The first AWAKEN exhibition ran in November and had more than 70 submissions from high school students around the county according to SLOMA.

The deadline for art submission for the second exhibit is Jan. 27. There is a limit of two artworks per student.

Middle school students can enter:

  • Paintings
  • Drawings
  • Photos
  • Hand-pulled prints
  • Ceramics
  • Digital art
  • Fiber art
  • Videos
  • Sculptures
