People in San Luis Obispo County who are signing up for Covered California have some help navigating the process.
The deadline to sign up for coverage was extended to December 21.
Originally, the deadline was Saturday, but Covered California said it wanted to give people more time after a Texas judge called the Affordable Care Act unconstitutional.
Experts say people should still sign up.
In San Luis Obispo County, you can meet with health care navigators who can answer questions about insurance and health services.
“They’re afraid they walk into a doctor’s office they’re going to get a huge bill, right? That’s what we hear on TV, the horror stories about people going to the emergency room and having these huge bills, but insurance is the way to help avoid that,” said Michelle Shoresman, Healthcare Services Division Manager.
