Postgraduate life started Saturday for at least 1,000 Cal Poly graduates.

The university had its 35th annual fall ceremony on Dec. 15.

The theme of the graduation was “Mustangs forever.”

Cal Poly President Jeffrey D. Armstrong said commencement is a decisive transition in the lives of these future leaders in their perspective fields.

Shelby Lutton was one of those graduates.

She said she didn’t really know what she wanted to do until she heard the keynote speaker, Tjada McKenna who is Chief Officer of Habitat for Humanity speak.

Lutton said hearing the speaker talk about what she does took what she felt and put it into words.

“I’d like to help people just learn like where their food is coming from, and for those who can’t access food I’d like to help them get good food,” Lutton said.

Lutton transferred from a community college to Cal Poly.

She said everyone at the university helped set her up for success.
