UPDATE (4:45 p.m.) – The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office says a shed explosion at a home in Vandenberg Village on Thursday was the result of drug-making activities.
The explosion and resulting fire happened at about 2:45 a.m. at a home in the 3900 block of Marion Court.
Sheriff’s officials say a person who was seriously burned in the incident had been extracting hash oil, a highly flammable process, when an error occurred that resulted in the explosion.
Detectives served a search warrant at the property and say they found a large amount of processed marijuana, hash oil, and other forms of concentrated cannabis.
(UPDATE: 4:30 A.M.) – Santa Barbara County Fire officials say a shed exploded and caught fire early Thursday morning in Vandenberg Village.
At around 2:45 a.m, firefighters responded to reports of an explosion and fire at a home on Marion Court in Vandenberg Village near the Mission Club Golf Course.
Firefighters say the explosion blew out windows of the home on the same property as the shed, as well as the neighbors home. Officials say both homes suffered exterior damage but the fire did not spread inside of the homes.
Neighbors within Marion Court were evacuated due to safety precautions, according to fire officials.
A person who lives in the home where the shed exploded was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. Two other residents who live in the home made it out safely. Fire officials say a neighbor also went to the hospital due to breathing problems.
An investigator remains on the scene Thursday morning trying to determine the cause of the explosion.

Santa Barbara County Fire responded to reports of a structure fire in a Lompoc neighborhood Thursday morning.
Reports of a structure fire came in at around 2:45 a.m. on Marion Court near the Mission Club Golf Course in Lompoc.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
