Local children who have been diagnosed with cancer received their very own Christmas party this week at the Madonna Inn.

The annual Christmas party was started 23 years ago by the Oncology Nursing Society.

Patients from seven different hospitals throughout the area participate in the event.

The party is sponsored by many clubs and organizations throughout San Luis Obispo County.

Children and their families enjoyed arts and crafts, a magic show, and a buffet provided by the Madonna Inn.

“A lot of these children have met others that have the same illness as them, have gone through the same chemotherapy as them, perhaps at a different hospital, so it’s really nice for them to get to meet others. We also have an annual camp called Camp Reach for the Stars, so for a lot of them it’s kinda like a reunion six months later after being at camp together,” said Mary Mott Okimoto with SLO Oncology & Hematology Health Center

Santa and local firefighters brought toys for every patient and their siblings.
