Forty-four new homes will soon be filling the vacant lot off Harris Grade Road and Gardengate Lane in Lompoc.

This area has changed hands several times over the last decade.

“There was a rumor for a while it was going to be a strip mall and apartments and so everybody’s pretty happy that it’s going to be a nice housing development,” said Rob Kirsch who lives near the new development.

Developer McCarthy Homes says these future two-story and one-story homes in Purisima Hills will allow for different age groups and family sizes to move in.

“Whether you’re single, downsizers, families, growing families, we’re gonna have a home that’s gonna fit everyone’s need here,” said sales broker Diana Kolec.

That’s good news for neighbors who hope these homes, starting in the $500,000 range, will help raise the property value of their homes.

“I was surprised about the prices. I thought they’d be lower but yeah, that’s great,” Kirsch said.

Many are still concerned about the amount of traffic this will bring to a community that has only one way in and one way out.

“Now it’s hard to get out of our development onto Harris Grade Road, so it’ll be a lot harder to get out cause there will be a lot more cars,” Kirsch said.

The developers say this location offers commuters easy access to Santa Barbara or Santa Maria.

“We have a great access road for that. We’ll also have a community fence as well and then coming into Purisima Hills Coastal Collection, you’re gonna go up the road and turn into the community so it will be off the main road for our entrance,” Kolec explained.

McCarthy Homes says they’ve had a lot of interest in this location already. They hope to have model homes ready by late summer of 2019.
