Cachuma Lake to soon receive 4,000 pounds of trout

Posted at 1:04 PM, Dec 10, 2018

Cachuma Lake will soon be stocked with trout again.

Santa Barbara County Parks says the first 4,000-pound load of triploid rainbow trout will arrive in mid-December. Fish will range in size from a half-pound to eight pounds.

The fish are reportedly coming from Mt. Lassen Trout Farms in Paynes Creek, which has been supplying rainbow trout for many years.

More releases are tentatively set for the spring.

County parks officials say the fall and winter months are the best for trout fishing at the lake.

Anglers can purchase or rent fishing gear at Cachuma Lake Marina and Boat Rentals, which also sells one-day and annual fishing licenses.

The Cachuma Lake Weekly Fishing Report is available on the Santa Barbara County Parks’ website.
