UPDATE: Semi-truck crash causes major traffic backup on Hwy 101 in Santa Maria

UPDATE (5:40 p.m.) – All lanes of Highway 101 are reopened.


 

UPDATE (3:30 p.m.) – As of 3:30 p.m., one lane of the highway in each direction remained closed in the area while Caltrans worked to repair the damaged guardrail. The lane closures appeared to be causing a slight slow down for drivers in each direction.


 

UPDATE (10:20 a.m.) – A tow truck crew was working to remove a semi truck that crashed through the center guardrail of Highway 101 near the northbound Broadway offramp Thursday morning.

The highway was shut down at Donovan Road for about 20 minutes but reopened at approximately 10:15 a.m. Traffic is flowing through the area, but drivers should expect delays until the wreckage is completely removed.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a total of four vehicles were involved in the crash. It started when two cars were involved in a rear-end crash. The truck then reportedly hit one of those vehicles and another car before crashing into the center divider.

The CHP says there were only minor injuries.


 

UPDATE (9 a.m.) – Traffic remains backed up near Highway 101 at Broadway in Santa Maria. One lane in each direction was shut down and traffic on both sides of the highway was impacted. Caltrans is advising drivers to use detours if possible. No word on the extent of any injuries.

UPDATE (7:50 a.m.) – Caltrans has issued a SIG alert because of a big-rig crash in Santa Maria Thursday morning.

The alert means drivers should prepare for delays of 30 minutes or more.

CHP and Caltrans report that the semi-truck and sedan that collided on Highway 101 northbound near the Broadway off-ramp are blocking the left, fast lane of the highway.

The fast-lane of Highway 101 northbound and one southbound lane are closed due to the collision.

Caltrans crews have been sent to the crash scene to repair guardrails damaged by the crash.


 

(7:53 a.m.) – A semi-truck crash along northbound Highway 101 in Santa Maria causes traffic back up near the Broadway off-ramp.

The crash happened at around 6:15 a.m Thursday.

According to the California Highway Patrol incident page, the semi-truck crashed with at least two other vehicles.

CHP’s incident page says the semi-truck is blocking the number one lane on southbound 101 and northbound 101.

CHP has not reported any injuries at this time.

As of 7 a.m. crews are on the way to help clear the road.
