Part of a stained glass window at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Maria was broken over the weekend and the church is now trying to figure out how to repair it.

The church is located at the corner of Cook Street and Broadway.

Minister Bob Isip says it appears the window was broken sometime after the Christmas Parade of Lights on Saturday evening and before Sunday morning. Church staff arrived Sunday morning to find several holes and cracks in the stained glass and the outer protective window shattered.

“We would like to understand what motivated them to just cause damage to our facility because this space is used every Monday morning from 8 a.m. to noon as outreach to the homeless,” Isip said.

The stained glass window was created by an artist from Atascadero and donated to the church by a local family.
