A Santa Maria man was arrested after reports of him running through backyards and entering a home in the Orcutt area, according to law enforcement.

On Friday, Jonathan Russell Thomas, 28, was seen running through backyards and when confronted by a witness, he claimed to be “hiding”.

With the help of area residents, Thomas was located within minutes by responding Santa Barbara County Sheriff deputies.

Residents told deputies Thomas had not only entered residents’ yards without permission, but had entered at least one residence, the press release stated.

He faces charges of Residential Burglary and False Impersonation along with a $10,000 warrant from Humboldt County.

“The Deputies assigned to the Santa Maria Station were impressed with the description of the suspect as well as his updated movements,” stated Kelly Hoover, public information officer. “Without this communication, it is possible that this apprehension would not have been made. This incident is an excellent example of the teamwork and support that is so crucial to our joint success.”
