Morro Bay police arrested a man early Friday morning after they say he tried to fight with officers.

At around 2 a.m., police say officers were confronted by a man running naked in the roadway along the 2100 block of Main Street.

They say he approached the officers’ patrol vehicle and started yelling and pounding on the car.

Police say officers tried to calm the man, but he started to strike the officers and refused to comply with orders to stop fighting.

A Taser was reportedly used to subdue the man.

He has been identified as James Forte, 49, of Atascadero.

Police say Forte was taken to a local hospital to be checked out because it was believed he was under the influence of drugs.

He was later booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of resisting police and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

In an apparently unrelated incident two days prior, police arrested a 29-year-old Morro Bay man on suspicion of resisting police and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Police say on Wednesday, Nov. 14, officers were called to the 400 block of Morro Ave. for a report of a man acting strange and erratic.

They say officers made contact with the suspect, identified as Evan Aguirre, and tried to detain him on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs, but he became combative with them and tried to run away.

Once taken into custody, police say Aguirre was checked out at the hospital before being booked into county jail.

None of the officers or the suspects involved in these incidents were injured, according to police.
