The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office hosted its “Coffee with a Cop” event on Thursday to connect police officers with community members in Goleta.

The event creates the opportunity for deputies in the Goleta Valley area to get associated with the community they serve and for residents to be able to talk to officers about safety and patrol.

This specific “Coffee with a Cop” was also a way to gather residents and police officers together in honor of the funeral of Ventura County Sheriff’s Sergeant Ron Helus, who was killed in the Borderline Bar and Grill shooting in Thousand Oaks on November 7.

The new Chief of Police Services for the City of Goleta, Lt. Brian Thielst, was in attendance to meet as many community members as possible after starting his latest role.

“Coffee with a Cop” is a national initiative to bring cops and their citizens together to open the conversation up regarding public safety. The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office has been hosting events similar to this since 2003.
