The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce named Jim Dantona as the new president and CEO.

Dantona earned the new title as CEO after dedicating decades of work in economic development, community building and political advocacy. His most recent position held was chief of staff for Los Angeles City Council member Nury Martinez since 2013.

“I am truly honored to join such an accomplished organization,” Dantona said in a press release. “I look forward to supporting and building on the solid foundations of this remarkable community, one my wife and I fell in love with many years ago.”

He has also served as director of legislative affairs at Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles for an automated parking company, and planning director for two Los Angeles City Council members.

Dantona will take over for Ermina Karim, who stepped down in June after 10 years with the SLO Chamber of Commerce. Leadership SLO Executive Director Sandi Sigurdson is currently serving as interim CEO.

Dantona will start serving in the position on January 2.
