The California Highway Patrol has identified the man killed in a weekend crash near Santa Maria as Mark Bradford Hurd.

Hurd, 42, and his 41-year-old female passenger were on a motorcycle heading north on Thompson Avenue Saturday at about 7:30 p.m. at an unknown speed when officers say another driver from Arroyo Grande did not see the motorcycle approaching and pulled into the intersection at Wineman Road.

The motorcycle crashed into the side of the pickup truck, ejecting both Hurd and his passenger, both of Santa Maria.

Hurd was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger reportedly suffered major injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. An update on her condition was not immediately available.

The other driver was not injured.

No arrests were made, but CHP says the crash remains under investigation.
