The son of a Grover Beach woman found dead in her home last month has been arrested and charged for his mother’s murder.
Authorities say Athena Valentiny, 64, was stabbed to death in her home on or around Oct. 24. Her body was discovered Oct. 25 during a welfare check at the home on the 200 block of South 9th Street.
The Grover Beach Police Department says they worked with the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office on the investigation and identified Levente Laszlo Lazar, 26, of Bloomington, Indiana as the suspect.
He is awaiting extradition to California following his arrest Tuesday in Indiana, which came after being questioned by investigators.
Police say the murder was premeditated, although a possible motive has not been released by authorities.
A search warrant was also executed.
Police say Valentiny’s dog is believed to have left the home around the time of her death and has yet to be found.
