Juvenile arrested in connection with shootings in Santa Maria

UPDATE – Santa Maria police on Monday told KSBY News only one of the three juveniles detained over the weekend in connection with shootings in Santa Maria that left two people injured and one person dead was arrested.

Police say they will recommend the district attorney’s office charge that person for all three shootings. Their name has not been released due to their age.

The other two juveniles were reportedly released.


SATURDAY – UPDATE (10:30 a.m. ) – The Santa Maria Police Department released the name of the person shot and killed at 1240 West Bethel Lane in Santa Maria Friday night and have also arrested three male juveniles in connection to the shooting.

Police said when officers arrived to the scene they found Salomon Morales-Robles unresponsive with several gunshot wounds. Officers said Morales was later pronounced dead at the scene.

While officers were investigating the case, police said they got another disturbance call at 12:07 a.m. Saturday in the 1900 Block of South Ybarra.

Santa Maria Police said when they got to the scene they found two people with gunshot wounds. Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital and were treated for their injuries. Police said they were expected to survive.

While investigating the shootings, Santa Maria Police said they arrested three male juveniles who are suspected to be involved in the shooting. Police did not release the name of any of the three boys.

One of the boys was arrested for homicide, attempted murder, firing a handgun causing death and gang enhancement.

Santa Maria police have launched a homicide investigation after one person was killed in a shooting late Friday night.

SMPD Lt. Mark Streker said a male victim was shot and killed near the Westgate Apartments on the 1200 block of W. Bethel Lane around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

The name and age of the victim have not been released and Streker could not comment on whether the victim was an adult or minor.

Just about a half hour later, a man and woman were injured in a shooting in the same area.

Streker said the shootings were separate incidents but are somehow related.

The second shooting was reported at 12:07 a.m. Saturday.

The names, ages and conditions of the man and woman injured were not released but Streker did confirm the victims are adults.

At least one suspect is in custody and Streker said he does not believe there’s any threat to the community. No information about the suspect or suspects was released.

Investigators remained on scene throughout the morning collecting evidence.

Streker said he does not believe that a pair of robberies around the same time are related to the shootings.
