Homeless people in San Luis Obispo County have a new place to get clean. Organizers held a ribbon cutting event on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the new addition.
Shower to the People unveiled a portable shower unit in Grover Beach where homeless people can use showers two times a week. Services will be offered on Mondays and Thursdays at Life Point Church.
The group is working to get more units soon.
President of the Shower to the People Board, Gwen Watkins, says it’s important for people to have access to a shower because it can make them feel better.
“The concept of giving someone who doesn’t have access to a shower, a shower. When they come out of the shower, it’s so worthwhile for the volunteers because everyone has a smile on their face,” said Watkins.
It took two years to get the portable unit, which was paid for by a grant and community donations.
